About Us

Sohal Education is a charitable nonprofit that empowers adult learners and community members through foundational literacy and accessible skill-building. We build sustainable, community-based volunteer teaching networks that deliver high-quality, supplemental education to diverse populations. 

Our mission is to enable human-centered digital curriculum, multilingual instructional pathways, and interactive learning tools designed to build practical communication skills and foster long-term educational growth. We believe English literacy and cultural preservation belong together. We value the languages and cultures learners bring, celebrate the diversity of global diaspora communities, and offer multiple points of access with dignity at the center.

We work to integrate reflective practices into learning experiences that drive effective leadership and lifelong learning. We welcome learners from around the world.

We began with the Punjabi diaspora because it is the community our founders are connected to and know well: its languages, its working lives and its trusted gathering places. That is where we started, not a limit on who we serve. Today, our free lessons are taught in English and Punjabi, and any adult learner is welcome to join. Over time, we plan to adapt them for other language communities.

How we align our work

We are an early stage organization with large ambitions. These frameworks set the standards we hold ourselves to as we grow. We are not certified by, affiliated with, or endorsed by any of them.

OECD — Adult skills and literacy research that grounds our curriculum decisions in evidence rather than assumption.

B Lab — The B Impact Assessment, which gives us a structured way to examine our own governance, accountability, and community impact.

Rainforest Alliance — Standards for sustainable livelihoods in farming communities. Many of our learners come from agricultural families, and this work is a reminder that education, environment, and economic security are one question, not three.

Through our scalable curricula, we aim to reach 1,000 adult learners by 2027 with workplace-ready English and digital literacy. We plan to measure success through career advancement, credentials earned, and community integration milestones.
